Those who studied the arts for four or more years scored 66
points higher on verbal and 47 points higher on math portions of
the SAT than students with no coursework or experience in the
arts for a combined total of 113 points higher."

Seventeen SHS students selected for NYSSMA Area All-State Music
Festival
Seventeen Shaker High School students have been selected to
perform with the NYSSMA Area All-State Music Festival on
Friday-Saturday, November 20-21, 2009. The New York State School
Music Association (NYSSMA) advocates for and improves music
education across New York State by promoting appropriate
activities and programs for students in school music programs.

SHS students chosen for All-state Music
Four SHS students were chosen by the New York State School Music
Association to perform in the All-State Festival this December
in Rochester. Tina Quoi, grade 12, will sing soprano in Mixed
Chorus. Kaylee Steck, grade 12, will also sing soprano in the
Mixed Chorus. Tony Sun, grade 12, will play alto saxophone in
the Symphonic Band. Dakota Wayne, grade 11, will play on the
double bass in the Symphony Orchestra. Greg Koski, grade 12, was
chosen as an alternate for cello in the Symphony Orchestra.
Thousands of students auditioned for this honor last spring at
Solo and Ensemble Festivals throughout the state. This is quite
an honor for Shaker High School to have so many students
accepted. The All-State ensembles will perform on Sunday,
December 6th in Rochester NY
