October 22, 2009 - Southgate Elementary
School recently held an evacuation drill on October 16,
2009. Students and faculty evacuated the building following
fire drill procedures and then left the campus to a
designated safe location. The drill was conducted in
cooperation with Town of Colonie Police and other local
emergency agencies.
The building and campus was safely cleared as students and
staff walked in an orderly fashion to the secure location.
“We are very pleased with the outcome of the drill and are
proud of everyone for their recognition and respect for the
importance of this event,” Southgate Elementary Principal,
Ms. Jerri Lynne Dedrick said. “All participants did an
excellent job.”
The purpose of this mandated evacuation drill was to insure
that if there was ever a need to evacuate the campus,
everyone would know and be comfortable with the procedures
for doing so. Drills such as this are part of North Colonie
Central Schools’ on-going effort to insure student safety as
well as to comply with Project SAVE legislation.
