The NAMM Foundation announced the
results of its 12th annual Best Communities for Music
Education (BCME) survey, which acknowledges schools and
districts across the U.S. for their commitment to and
support for music education in schools. This year, the North
Colonie Central School District has been designated a “Best
Community for Music Education.”
Hundreds of applications were submitted from
across the country; 179 communities nationwide achieved this
prestigious designation. District Music Supervisor Deborah Keough
prepared a 20-page application for the district, which included
information about music funding, music class participation, student
achievements, instructional time, facilities, support for the music
program, and other factors related to the students’ and program’s
involvements with community arts organizations.
"I am thrilled that North Colonie has been
recognized with such a prestigious designation," Keough said. "The
North Colonie music teachers and I are very grateful for the
incredible support of North Colonie parents, administration, Board
of Education and community. This designation is indicative of an
entire educational and larger community that values the many
contributions that music makes in a child’s life."
The NAMM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization dedicated to advancing active participation in music
making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research,
philanthropic giving and public service programs from the
