In late May, fifth and sixth grade students in
the weekly morning Art Explorers classes traveled to the Empire
State Plaza to view a variety of art pieces and collections.
The trip, organized by the North Colonie Art
Department, consisted of a tour of the paintings and sculpture in
the collection as well as a few hands-on activities. Students had
the opportunity to visit an exhibit at the New York State Museum.
The Empire State Plaza Art Collection includes
many works of American Abstract Expressionist artists. Governor
Rockefeller acquired the pieces in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
For more information about the collection, you
