Dear Families:
I hope that everyone is enjoying this break week. I wanted to update our community regarding the progress made at Boght Hills Elementary School since last week’s fire.
First, I would like to again thank the multiple town of Colonie fire departments that arrived quickly and rapidly extinguished last week’s fire. Thanks to their quick action and expertise, the fire was contained and significant damage was confined to the cafetorium. Smoke did permeate the building, but there was no direct fire or water damage in the learning spaces (classrooms or library). We are pleased to report that our plan is to reopen school for Boght Hills K-3 in-person learning on Monday, April 12.
We are very fortunate to have an excellent team of professionals doing the restoration work. They arrived at Boght Hills by 10:00 the morning of the fire, and their team of approximately 70 professionals has been working conscientiously to ensure that the building will be ready for our students on the morning of Monday, April 12.
Finally, I want to extend my appreciation to the many Boght family members and community members who have reached out and offered their support. I am grateful for the altruistic spirit of caring which defines this district.
Please enjoy the remainder of your break. We look forward to seeing everyone back on April 12, and we are especially grateful that we will be able to welcome back our Boght Hills K-3 students to their building.
Sincerely,
D. Joseph Corr
Superintendent of Schools
