Budget Forum and Meet the Candidates – May 4

A Budget Forum and Meet the Candidates for the North Colonie Board of Education (BOE) event will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The District made the decision to hold the event virtually to accommodate requests made by individual BOE candidates.

BUDGET FORUM

Superintendent D. Joseph Corr will give an overview of the proposed $134,869,647 budget for the 2022-23 school year. The proposed plan would increase spending next year by $9,892,580 (7.92%) and result in an estimated tax rate increase of 0.5%. Viewers will be able to submit budget questions to Superintendent Corr.

MEET THE CANDIDATES

Following Superintendent Corr’s presentation, the three candidates running for the one open seat on the BOE will have the opportunity to make a brief statement as to why they are running for the board. The public will be able to submit questions to the BOE candidates via a Google form.

SCHEDULE & FURTHER DETAILS

7 p.m. – Introduction and overview of the agenda

7-7:10 p.m.  – The livestream audience can submit questions for the candidates. The public will be able to submit questions to the BOE candidates via a Google form. A link to a Google form will be shared on the screen at this time. The window will close for submitting candidate questions at 7:10 p.m.

7:10-7:40 p.m. – The Superintendent will give the budget presentation. Viewers can submit questions to the Superintendent about the budget at communications@ncolonie.org. Questions will only be accepted during 7:10-7:40 p.m. 

7:40-7:55 p.m. – The Superintendent will answer any budget questions received. The window will close for submitted budget questions at 7:45 p.m. Any budget questions not addressed during this timeframe will be responded to after the meeting. Questions and answers will be posted on the budget page on the North Colonie website  If there are no questions about the budget, we will move to the next portion of the meeting.

 7:55-8:05 p.m. – The candidates will give their three minute statements. This will be done in ballot order.

8:05-8:30 p.m. –  Candidates will respond to written questions received.  Questions will be asked of the candidates in the order they are received.

  • Each candidate will answer the same question.
  • Candidates will have two minutes to answer each question.
  • The order will change for each question.
  • Any duplicate questions will be consolidated and asked as a single question, as appropriate.
  • We may not get to all the questions submitted. Any additional questions will be provided to the candidates after the meeting.

8:30 p.m. – The meeting will adjourn.
