It was more than about money and scholarships. The recognition of Shaker High School student Mira Ginsburg shed further light on the positive difference individuals can make for their fellow students on the athletic field and in the school halls.
With signs, smiles, and applause, SHS Unified Sports and Club athletes celebrated with Mira when she received a $1,000 scholarship from Special Olympics New York Dec. 6 during a brief but energizing ceremony.
Mira raised the most money of any Unified school female student, bringing in $2,468, said Leigh Howard, Director of Unified Sports – Special Olympics NY. The money will fund as many as 15 Special Olympic athletes.
In recognition of this effort, she earned the $1,000 scholarship.
