Blue Creek’s Eileen Satterlee was honored as a woman of distinction in a proclamation ceremony led by New York state Assemblyman Phil Steck last week.
The school counselor was celebrated before friends and family at the 2023 Women of Distinction Awards ceremony at the William K Sanford Library on Monday evening, May 8.
“It is important that we honor the women who go above and beyond to make our communities stronger,” the proclamation states, “She is regarded by her peers as being patient, kind and unafraid of tackling difficult problems facing the community.”
Satterlee, who plans to retire at the end of the school year, has been an educator for 34 years. She has served Blue Creek Elementary School as a school counselor since 1994.
According to an email shared by the assemblyman’s office, “a slew” of community members nominated her for the distinction.
Satterlee was noted for her help in developing the PeaceAble School program, which has been recognized at the state level. As a Blue Creek Building Council member, she headed the school’s backpack program, collecting food donations and sending weekly care packages with children of families in need of help.
“Eileen has had a long, illustrious career, and she leaves behind a lasting impact on everyone she has encountered,” Steck stated.
