The Superintendent of Schools should:
- Serve as the chief executive officer and professional advisor on all school matters.
- Remain loyal to the Board and faithfully implement its decisions and policies, even if he/she has opposed their adoption.
- Keep the Board fully and accurately informed about school programs.
- Interpret the needs of the school system and make professional recommendations on all problems and issues considered by the Board.
- Devote a large share of time to the improvement of instruction, and be alert to advances and improvements in educational programs.
- Lead in the development and operations of an adequate program of school- community relations, and participate in common activities.
- Use great care in nominating candidates for appointment to the school staff and promote a strong staff development program.
- Recommend to the Board equipment, books, and supplies for purchase that are appropriate to the purposes and needs of the school system.
- Present for consideration an annual budget that is designed to serve the needs of the school system.
- Establish and manage the financial operations of the school district to ensure adherence to the budget and the wise use of school funds.
