SUMMER SCHOOL
Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 Program
If a pre-kindergarten student is identified as at-risk during the kindergarten screening, the student will be invited to attend the pre-kindergarten summer program. If the parent and teacher decide that the student is still at-risk after attending kindergarten, the child will be invited to attend the post-kindergarten summer program. In grades one through eight, the district invites at-risk students who receive LRA services, remedial reading;/writing, ESL and/or special education services to attend the remedial summer school program.
Students who are illegally absent for more than 5 days are to be discontinued from the program for the current summer.
Secondary Schools
In order to attend summer school for a laboratory science course (Earth Science R, Biology R, Chemistry R), all lab requirements must have been met during the school year.
Students can register to take either a Regents exam (if lab requirement has been met) or Competency Test without attending summer school courses. The Introduction to Occupation State Proficiency Exam will also be offered, if available, as a walk-in.
Participation Requirements
- Students receive a daily participation point for each day of class attendance up to 30 points. In addition to the prescribed academic expectations and course requirements, students are required to have a minimum of twenty-seven (27) participation points in order to pass a summer school course.
- Students who are tardy fewer than (15) minutes will receive a deduction of a half point.
- A tardiness of more than (15) minutes will result in a full point deduction.
- Failure to attend class will also result in a deduction of one point.
Transportation
No transportation is provided for any summer school program either at Shaker High School or neighboring school districts.

SUMMER SCHOOL STUDENT PARKING REGULATIONS
- Student parking will be allowed in the student parking lot by permit only. Cars without permits or parked illegally in the faculty lot will be towed away at the owner’s expense
- To register a vehicle, the car must be registered either in the name of the student or another member of the family. A student must also have a valid driver’s license. The transferal of permits from one student to another is not allowed.
- Students should notify the Summer School Office immediately if their parking permits are no longer needed.
- If a student’s parking permit is suspended, he or she must not park on streets adjacent to school property. Parking permits will not be renewed for students who violate this rule.
- Students must proceed directly to and from their automobiles. No loitering is allowed in the student parking lot. Students are not to be in the parking lot during school hours without permission of the Summer School Principal.
- All traffic rules must be obeyed, including but not limited to, the posted pseed of all school roadways.
- Violation of any of the parking rules will led to the immediate suspension of the student’s parking permit. The suspension of a parking permit may be appealed within three days after the rules violation, in writing to the Summer School Principal.
