Every month of the school year, our NCCSD Board of Education recognizes a student who goes “above and beyond” in their efforts to contribute. Our May NC Kids Care recipient is SHS junior Troy Serao who received a standing ovation following the reading of is nomination before the BOE May 22.
The nomination stated:
Currently, Troy holds two official titles – Student Government Ambassador and Junior Member of the Student Board of Finance. However, in addition to the maturity and follow-through Troy brings to these official roles at SHS, he is likely more known for his dedication and unofficial moniker of “volunteers for everything.”
His face is quite familiar at the NC Central School District Board of Education meetings. As a sophomore he took on leadership of the Student Representative Committee and coordinates getting fellow students to the Board of Education meetings.
“He’s mature and takes so much initiative,” said Lisa Morgan, SHS Student Government Adviser. “He jumps and he does, and he works extremely well with everyone and is such a happy person.”
He was elected as a freshman to his four-year term on the Student Board of Finance, which reviews the finances of clubs at SHS.
“He’s busy, but organized with his time,” Ms. Morgan said. “He keeps giving and giving and really does care about Shaker.”
And his care reaches into the community. Troy recently earned Eagle Scout honors and received a proclamation from the Town of Colonie for the achievement. He is also a Junior Assistant Scout Master for Troop 1701.
Shaker High School Principal Jim Wager said: “Troy is a thoughtful person that is continually seeking opportunities to make a positive difference in the community.”
Congratulations, Troy!
