8th to 9th Grade Transition Planning
The programming process for students transitioning from grade 8 to grade 9 is underway. Current teachers have made course recommendations for each student in the areas of English, Social Studies, Math, Science and World Language (if applicable). Please note that teachers have given careful consideration to ensure that your child will be both challenged and successful in their recommended courses. We ask that you review and read about your child’s recommended courses for grade 9 in the Shaker High School Course Catalog. The catalog explains the programs offered at Shaker High School as well as the prerequisites that must be met prior to enrollment. Please note that students identified with special education services will have their support periods finalized through the annual review process.
On March 5, 2024, teacher recommendations will be available under the backpack tab of Infinite Campus. A hard copy will also be mailed home. If you are unable to print a copy of this form at home, students can pick up a copy from their middle school counselor.
If you need help with your Parent Portal account or need to sign up for a Parent Portal account, please email your request to InformationServices@nccsk12.org.
Below are resources that will help you and your student plan their courses for 9th grade:
- SHS Course Catalog
- Fine Arts Courses (Handout #1)
- Ninth Grade Required Courses (Handout #2)
- Ninth Grade Elective Courses (Handout # 3)
A copy of the Ninth Grade Course Planning Sheet must be turned in to your child’s middle school counselor on Monday, March 11, 2024 during your child’s scheduled English class. All forms will be collected on that date, and your signature will confirm that you have participated in the course selection process.
Any course change request that occurs after course selections are made in March must be submitted in writing by May 10, 2024 to your child’s middle school counselor. No course request changes can occur after this date.
Please reach out to your student’s school counselor if you have any questions.
