Library Resources
Access the Loudonville Library catalog. From here, you can search for books, access databases, and see what’s new in the library. Students come to the library each week with their class for a variety of learning activities and book exchange.
Students in grades K-3 borrow books for one week, and students in grades 4-6 have a two week loan period. Students must return their books before they may borrow new books. We appreciate your assistance in reminding the children to return their library books in a timely manner. If they are absent on their library day, please encourage them to return the books on the day they return to school.
Literature
During their time in the library, students are exposed to a variety of literature:
- Authors and illustrators
- Award-winning books
- Multicultural literature
- Literary genres
- Book talks
Library Skills
Students learn library skills appropriate to each grade level, including searching for library materials on the library catalog and arrangement and location of library materials.
Research
The research objective is that students become competent in the research process by using available and appropriate materials. While students in the primary grades may begin learning to research, all students in grades four, five and six are involved in a formal project. The projects are tied to the science or social studies curriculum for each grade.
During the research process, students:
- Locate and select resources
- Evaluate sources and information
- Extract relevant information from sources
- Cite sources
Computer Literacy
Computer literacy is part of the library curriculum in grades four through six. Students learn about:
- Internet use
- Internet safety
- Evaluating Web sites
- Ethical issues including copyright and plagiarism
