Meet Dr. M. Trini Hernandez
We are pleased to introduce Dr. M. Trini Hernandez as the next District Supervisor of Bilingual Education and World Languages. Dr. Hernandez’s journey began in Madrid, Spain, where she pursued her passion for language by studying “Filologia Inglesa” at the esteemed University Complutense de Madrid, with the dream of becoming an English teacher. Her dedication to education led her to the United States over two decades ago, where she embarked on her career in 2004 as a Spanish teacher at Gloversville’s Middle School.
Throughout her tenure in the classroom, Dr. Hernandez taught 8th-grade Spanish and high school Spanish, including advanced college-level courses at the High School, while also serving as a Teaching Assistant at SUNY Albany. Her rich experience as a language educator and her bilingual and bicultural background made her an invaluable resource for ENL (English as a New Language) students and the community during her tenure as an Assistant Principal at the Junior/Senior HS in Watervliet and later at the Middle School in Amsterdam.
Her passion for supporting ENL and World Languages led her to join QUESTAR III BOCES as Director of the Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network. In this role, Dr. Hernandez collaborated closely with the NY State Education Department, further enhancing her expertise and impact on bilingual education.
More recently, Dr. Hernandez held the position of co-principal at Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School in the Hudson City School District. Her dedication to fostering inclusivity and equity in education became evident as she took on the role of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Director for the district. Working alongside the Superintendent, she spearheaded the design of curriculum, the creation of new programs, policy examination, and procedural improvements, all aimed at better serving their scholars.
Dr. Hernandez’s educational background is both extensive and impressive. She holds a BA in English and a BA in Spanish from the University at Albany, a MA in Linguistics from the same institution, SBL and SDL certificates from the College of Saint Rose, an MSEd in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of Saint Rose, and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Russell Sage.
With her exceptional qualifications, unwavering dedication, and rich experiences in diverse educational roles, we are confident that Dr. Hernandez will bring invaluable expertise to our district and drive our Bilingual Education and World Languages program to new heights. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Hernandez as the newest member of our educational community.
