We are excited to share the news that we have a new Communications Department at North Colonie CSD. This year, we have transitioned to having dedicated district staff now operating the Communications Department. This newly established department is looking forward to streamlining communication between the district and the community. We are eager to collaborate to deliver the most current news and essential updates regarding district initiatives, projects, and upcoming events. Meet Matt Stein, Director of Communications and Community Outreach
Matthew Stein is a dedicated professional with a strong background in Health and Physical Education. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1998. Shortly after graduating, he began his teaching career at Waterford-Halfmoon UFSD, where he taught elementary physical education and served as a multi-sport coach in 1998.
In 1999, Matthew moved on to Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, where he continued his journey as a secondary physical education teacher and a three-sport coach until 2004.
In 2004, Matthew joined the South Colonie School District and made significant contributions as a physical education instructor. During his tenure, he demonstrated leadership abilities and served as the High School Physical Education Coordinator, as well as undertaking the role of Physical Education and Athletics Administrative intern. One of his notable achievements during this time was being the Grant Manager for the $1.3 million Carol M. White US Department of Education Federal PEP grant for the South Colonie School District in 2013. Additionally, he excelled as a head coach in various sports and levels.
In 2014, Matthew’s passion for improving educational and athletic experiences led him to the Rotterdam-Mohonasen Central School District, where he served as the Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics until 2017.
From 2017 to June 2023, Matthew held a prominent position as the Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics for the North Colonie Central School District, where he continued to impact students’ lives positively and foster a culture of physical well-being and academic excellence.
Throughout his career, Matthew Stein has demonstrated unwavering commitment and leadership in the field of Health and Physical Education, leaving a lasting impact on numerous educational institutions and the students he has served.
Meet Ashley Miller, Communications Specialist
Ashley Miller is a North Colonie alumna joining the communications team after fifteen years in sports broadcasting. She has served as a producer, videographer, editor, reporter and anchor at two different television stations in the Capital Region. Ashley lives to tell stories. From student-athletes and coaches doing great things on and off the field to scorekeepers and trainers who have dedicated their lives to supporting others in the sports community, Ashley has done her best to highlight the achievements of others throughout her career in broadcasting.
After graduating from North Colonie in 2004, Ashley attended Syracuse University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 2008. She graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism, a double major in geography and a minor in Spanish. Over the years, she has enjoyed returning to her alma mater to cover various sporting events and to feature Shaker High School student-athletes. Now, Ashley is looking forward to rejoining North Colonie where she can highlight the many wonderful achievements of our students, faculty and staff members throughout the district.
Meet Jewelie Koutelis, Communications Coordinator
Jewelie began working at North Colonie in 2019. She holds a degree in the field of Social Work: Child and Family Services from SUNY Plattsburgh. She is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). During her career, Jewelie received two Awards for Excellence in Customer Service.
Jewelie worked as an Assistant Community Director at Colonie Manor Adult Home. She mentored four department managers and oversaw the human resources department and the sales and marketing department. She immensely enjoyed working with seniors and collaborating with community members to implement events that brought families together to create a sense of unity.
With a proficient background in marketing, she demonstrated outstanding skills in devising, creating, and executing digital advertising campaigns. At Fox Vision Development Center, she played a role in launching a new website and actively monitoring search engine optimization to enhance online visibility. Jewelie also took charge of designing and implementing both external and internal publications, alongside organizing monthly professional development workshops.
Jewelie continually seeks professional development opportunities. Throughout her education and work experience, she has always been drawn to helping children and families in need. Jewelie looks for opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.
Jewelie is looking forward to the growth and development of the Communications Department. She is enthusiastic about utilizing her skills and education to create positive transformations, integrate the district’s three pillars, and to collaborate and establish partnerships with the community district-wide.
