Please join us in welcoming Dr. Melissa Veino to the Board of Education. At the July 10th Board of Education meeting, Dr. Veino was sworn in as the district’s newly elected Board of Education member. To learn more about Dr. Melissa Veino, please read below.
Dr. Veino has been a general pediatrician with St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates since their merger with Prime Care Physicians in 2012. She works full time providing primary care to children from birth to early adulthood and routinely provide mentoring and shadowing experiences for medical students from Albany Medical College. She also worked as a co-medical director for the Bethlehem Central School District from 2012-2022. In this role they helped create policies to keep students safe on the fields and in the classrooms, as well as providing day-to-day support to nurses to help students without their own medical homes. Currently, she is also the Chair of the Pediatric Joint Operating Committee, which strives to incorporate physician-led decision making into larger issues of corporate management.
Dr. Veino received her primary education from the North Colonie School District, graduating from Shaker High School in 2000. She graduated from Boston College in 2004 and received a Bachelor of the Arts in English with a minor in Chemistry and a pre-med concentration. In 2008, she graduated from Albany Medical College with her medical degree. She remained at Albany Medical Center for three years of pediatric residency training, ending in 2011.
Dr. Veino also joined the Boght Hills PTA in 2015 and ran for her first PTA Board position in 2016. From 2019-2022 she was the President of the Boght Hills PTA. She is currently the President of the North Colonie PTA Council, which offers a support system to all of the district PTAs.
In her free time, Dr. Veino is a Girl Scout troop leader in 2017 for Daisy and Brownie level troops. Currently, she works closely with a team of six co-troop leaders with more than 40 girls enrolled from across our district. She and her husband are both lifelong North Colonie residents. They now have three daughters in the district, next year spanning all three levels – Boght Hills, Shaker Middle School, and Shaker High School. Dr. Veino says North Colonie is part of the fabric of who she is as a person.
