Shaker Artists Recognized with Honors

North Colonie Central School District is proud to showcase the work of some of our very distinguished art students in grades 10-12.

“This exhibit represents the outstanding creativity and accomplishments of our high school art students and staff,” said Superintendent Joe Corr. “They are such a wonderful source of joy to our entire school community.”

Twenty-nine Shaker High students have been recognized with honors in the annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This makes an impressive total of 39 visual art awards.

There are 13 Gold Key awarded artworks that are being considered for national merit. The results will be revealed mid-March.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment, especially this year in our challenged instructional and learning times,” said Anne Manzella, the District Supervisor of Visual & Media Arts. “It is a testament to the strength of our art department teachers at all three levels (K-12), preparing our students with a solid foundation of skills and content knowledge. Shaker HS makes a strong commitment to our advanced art students, by working with them to learn how to present their work publicly, consistent with the artistic processes that are at the core of our NYS Visual and Media Art Learning Standards. Our SHS National Art Honor Society chapter funds support the submission fee of one artwork per student.”

Special applause goes out to Genevieve Chornyak, Carrie Lue, Lynn Marie Paris, and John Doolittle, who were the direct teachers of one or more of the award recipients.
