Southgate Opens Adaptive Playground

Our adaptive playground is here! The Southgate Elementary School community celebrated the opening of its new adaptive playground on Friday, Nov. 1. The playground allows for North Colonie to be a more inclusive community for students with physical and developmental disabilities, and was dedicated in memory of Coach Peter Mravlja.

The day began with an assembly remembering Coach Mravlja, with Assemblymember Phil Steck, Superintendent of Schools Kathleen Skeals, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services Naté Turner-Hassell, and Director of Pupil Services Casey Bardin all in attendance. Assemblymember Steck was the driving force behind helping to bring the adaptive playground to Southgate. The playground will be available for community use outside of school hours during the week and on weekends.

Mark your calendars! The official ribbon cutting for the playground will be on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. All North Colonie CSD students, staff, and families are welcome to attend this event.
