The North Colonie Board of Education is set to name Scott Thompson as the new principal of Loudonville Elementary during its Nov. 21 meeting. Selected from a strong field of candidates, the news of his expected appointment was shared with the Loudonville staff earlier today. Principal Abbey North announced her resignation earlier this fall.
Mr. Thompson is known for his strong work ethic and passion for educating all students. He will not only be returning to his roots as an elementary educator, but to Loudonville where he was raised as a child.
Mr. Thompson’s first day will be Jan. 3, 2023.
“I am excited to welcome Mr. Thompson to Loudonville Elementary School,’ said Superintendent Joe Corr. “Mr. Thompson brings a wealth of experience at all levels, and a proven track record of developing positive and supportive relationships with students, teachers, and families.”
Mr. Thompson began his career in education as a teacher assistant, working for two years in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms prior to achieving his teaching certification. He then worked for 11 years as a classroom teacher at the elementary level.
Currently, he is in his 10th year as a school administrator, serving as an assistant principal and principal in both middle schools and high schools. His current position is the principal of the Tony Clement Center for Education in the City School District of Albany. In that role, he works with youth who have not been successful in Albany High School where the Clement Center provides an alternative setting.
Mr. Thompson earned his B.A. in Social and Rehabilitation Services from Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. He completed both his M.S. in Elementary Education and his Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from the College of Saint Rose.
